This website serves as a complement to the materials explored in ART HISTORY 479: ART & HISTORY IN AFRICA-- THE CLASSICAL VISUAL ART TRADITIONS FROM NIGERIA. Specifically, the course examines the major artistic traditions from the Nok corpus; the Igbo Ukwu Bronzes; Ife Terracotta, Stone and Leaded Brass objects; the Terracotta sculptures from the Kingdom of Owo; the stone images of Esie; the metal sculptures from Tada and the royal art of Benin.
