The bead goes on...
Having given us a gloriously
beaded past, Yoruba bead artists (and their descendants in the Americas)
are now taking us into the next millennium with works that transcend not
only the shapes, images, colors, and purposes of the past, but also the
boundaries of a primarily Yoruba cultural universe to give us works that
are rooted in ancient images and ideas, and, at the same time, are transcultural,
transnational, pan-African, and universalistic in intention...
