ROOTS
The relationship between chord roots determine to a great extent the relative
strength or weakness of a harmonic progression. The "circle progression"
shown below as the circle of ascending fourths (vs. the classical version
of the circle of ascending 5ths) depicts the strongest root movement in
directional harmony.
The root names are listed three times. Try to anticipate the next note
name before you see it on the screen. It is important to memorize these
root relationships! Many standard jazz progressions are based on circle
progressions.
